Wikis are typically set up to be freely and openly edited. This means anyone can edit the pages, often without even registering/logging in. This is only possible because wikis offer a unique kind of "soft security". By making it very simple to monitor edits or changes, and revert (or undo) those changes to retrieve an older version of a page, a wiki doesn't need to be very restrictive at all.
Disputable claim Blogs and internet forums do, in fact, have similar kind of soft security, users with appropriate permissions can edit or remove other users' posts. And the claim that a wiki doesn't need to be very restrictive at all because it is very simple to revert edits is also disputable as reverted edits are recorded in a publically viewable edit history whereas deleted forum and blog posts are not publically viewable.--Xanthipos (talk) 21:07, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the request! I've gone ahead and removed the word "unique". I'm not going to act on "very restrictive at all" at the moment; just because forum and blog posts that have been deleted can't be publicly viewable and wiki edits aren't doesn't mean that wikis need to be more restrictive. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be thick here, but I'm not clear on what you're suggesting. Are you saying that wikis should be more restrictive? That users shouldn't be able to view certain edits in the history? That registration should be required to edit? If wikis operated like forums they wouldn't allow for collaborative editing of articles. They wouldn't really exist at all, considering forums have their own use case. The idea behind wikis is that anyone can edit. --Pcj (T·C) 00:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
